| Location | Northamptonshire |
|---|---|
| Description |
Youth Volunteer Advisors will work with young people in the 7 districts of Northamptonshire to develop, set up, run and maintain 7 Area Youth Action Teams. These must actively involve a minimum of 5 young people aged between 13 and 24.
What do Youth Action Teams do? YATs will work with young people and other members of their local communities to research and design youth-led action projects that meet local people’s needs, meet young people’s needs and meet their passions and interests. YAT members will be “champions” for youth volunteering. They will actively promote youth volunteering to young people who would not usually volunteer. They will give presentations and hold one off volunteering events that encourage young people in their communities to volunteer YATs will actively seek the views and opinions of young people in their communities by asking them about the things that matter to them. Each YAT will elect 4 members aged 13 to 19 to be actively involved in Area Shadow Board groups. These members will be representatives of young people involved with the voluntary youth sector. YATs will also elect one member to be involved in the NVYA Youth Advisory Group. (Please see the role descriptions in the attached pack). Who can join their Area Youth Action Team? Any young person who is involved in the local area through a voluntary youth organisation can be a member of their YAT. YAT members can have training so that they understand their role in the team as well as training in youth leadership and how to “Be Representative” of their voluntary youth organisation and other young volunteers. How will Youth Action Teams tell young people what they are doing? Each YAT will be able to have its own webpage on the website for Northamptonshire Council for Voluntary Youth Services. The website and its pages will be linked to other organisation’s websites and young people’s websites. YATs will use posters and the local media to make sure that young people know where to go to find out information about youth action in their local area. Youth Volunteer Advisors will help YATs to get regular articles in the local newspapers, radio and magazines to make sure they get recognition for the work they are doing. |

| Close Date | 31 March 2009 |
| Minimum Amount | £1.00 |
| Maximum Amount | £3000.00 |
| Description |
There is no formal application form. For administrative purposes, it is helpful if the appeal letter can be kept to one or two sides of A4 paper, which may be supported by background information. Please do not send videos, tapes or bulky reports; they will not be returned. The following information is required:
• Charity name and registration number. • Brief details about the project and the sum to be raised - please ensure you include a clear aim or list of objectives. • Details of the amount raised so far towards the target and if relevant, briefly mention how you intend to raise the rest. • A copy of the last audited accounts and annual report. The Directors meet quarterly and applicants will be notified when their appeal is to be considered. Please note - due to the overwhelming number of appeals, we can only fund about 25% of current applications. If you are unsure whether your appeal is likely to succeed then please contact us for further advice. Regrettably, due to overwhelming demand, unsolicited appeals are extremely unlikely to attract a grant in connection with salaries, general running costs or major capital projects. We also do not support overseas schemes or appeals on behalf of individuals. We only accept applications from UK registered charities or recognised churches - there are no exceptions to this rule. Using another charity to bid for funds on behalf of a third party is not permitted. In considering unsolicited appeals, the Directors prefer appeals where there are relatively small, attainable targets and they place great importance on clear evidence of local support. The Directors also take into account whether it is likely that any grant they make will be put to immediate use. In all cases, applications should be sent to: Mrs Sheila Gent, We strongly advise that you contact Mrs Gent before submitting an appeal. |

Through the Money4Youth scheme the Government has given Northamptonshire County Council £702,000 to allocate to young people between the ages of 13 and 19 who come up with the best ideas for youth activities in their area.
The money has been divided up amongst the Boroughs and Districts according to their population. Corby - £91,242 Daventry - £94,741 East Northants - £96,828 Kettering - £96,544 Northampton - £133,663 South Northants - £96,303 Wellingborough - £94,885 We want young people to be involved in decision making about things to do and places to go. They can be anything from a music group to a chess club to a girls football club or a DJ event. We want you to think about whether your project gets lots of other people involved, active and taking part. We want you to make sure that young people who don't always get activities or opportunities are catered for and supported so that they can take part in activities. Each Borough/District has a local youth forum run by young people who have a responsibility for your local rights. Simply put your ideas on the simple form and send it to your local Youth Forum. Young people from your local district (or borough) youth forum will then choose the best, most interesting ideas, which can be delivered to you quickly with the help of council staff. Once the ideas have been chosen the council officers will sort out the arrangements to start the project. Everyone who applies will be told about the best projects and be thanked for sending in their ideas whether their idea was chosen or not. |

UnLtd Sport Relief Awards provide opportunities for young people to bring communities together, to help them promote understanding and solve conflict through sport and being active.
This UK wide funding programme is for 11-21 year olds, who are prepared to go the extra mile and use their passion for sport to bring respect and understanding to their communities by setting up their own projects. Funding of £250-£5,000 is available for entrepreneurial young people who have great ideas and who want to make a difference. For example, with this money you could engage young people from different backgrounds by organising an indoor cricket mini-world cup. Or perhaps you could help reduce violence in your area by getting young people to channel their energies into football rather than fighting. Or how about organising a skateboarding competition for kids that will reduce tensions in the local area. …all it takes is one great idea. So what are you waiting for? This could be your chance to get your community moving and score some skills on the way! |

The Sutton Trust funds projects that provide educational opportunities for young people from non-privileged backgrounds. The Sutton Trust will fund projects across the UK, in any area where there is need, including rural and inner city areas. The only exception is for specialist schools - we generally only fund these schools in the London area. The Sutton Trust tends to fund projects in a formal education setting, working primarily with organisations such as schools, universities, community groups, charities and research bodies. We do not fund individuals. Our work with the secondary school age group is focused on gifted and talented students. There is no deadline for applications, as the Trustees meet at regular intervals throughout the year. We will respond to you as soon as possible, but please be aware that the application process may take at least a month, and sometimes longer. |---|---|
| Close Date | 31 March 2009 |
| Minimum Amount | £10000.00 |
| Maximum Amount | £50000.00 |
| Description |
The Foyle Foundation will support charities registered in the United Kingdom, the dominant purpose of which is to benefit Learning, the Arts or Health.
Learning - The Foundation’s main priorities for support are: libraries, museums and archives; and special educational needs and learning difficulties. State funded schools and special schools may be supported. State funded secondary and primary schools can apply for projects with direct educational benefit but must demonstrate why their project cannot be funded from statutory or other funding. If the school has a PTA, Friends or fundraising arm that is a charity, then this should be the applicant on behalf of the school. Citizenship, esteem-building, training, skills acquisition to aid employment, independent living, early learning projects or playgroups will not generally be considered. Private schools will not generally be supported. Arts - They seek applications that make a strong artistic case for support in either the performing or visual arts that particularly help you to deliver your artistic vision. Other priorities are: to help make the arts more accessible by developing new audiences, supporting tours, festivals and arts educational projects; and to encourage new work and support young and emerging artists. Building and infrastructure projects to construct new arts facilities, improve or re-equip existing venues will also be considered. Community arts activity will not generally be supported. Health - The Foundation supports applications linked to a known medical condition. They fund projects or core work that makes an active contribution to improved health care. Smaller health charities, including those for rare or distressing conditions will be favoured. Advocacy, respite, counselling or general support services such as information distribution or telephone help lines will not generally be supported. Applications should be for the benefit of people in the United Kingdom. Applications from individuals or organisations without charitable status will be ineligible. The Foundation will consider both revenue and capital projects. Organisations and projects that provide direct benefits and services to the public, rather than special interest groups will be favoured. Applications for grants because funding is difficult to obtain will be of particular interest to the Trustees. Applicants should demonstrate how the project or funding request will be sustainable, if this is an ongoing activity, beyond the end of any Foundation grant. As part of the project appraisal process the level and purpose of the applicant’s reserves will be taken into account. Social and community welfare organisations, whose dominant purpose is not learning, arts or health, will not normally be supported. | Description |
Every year the Lloyds TSB Foundation funds thousands of charities working to tackle disadvantage across England and Wales. Our focus is on supporting small and medium underfunded charities that can make a significant difference to the lives of disadvantaged people by helping them to play a fuller role in the communities of their choice. Our strong local presence enables us to respond directly and promptly to local needs.
We fund new and existing work linked to our mission We have a special interest in keeping abreast of emerging trends and funding innovative work We fund work that can share learning and best practice We provide one, two and three year funding We make grants appropriate to the size of the charity The Foundation is also one of the few grant makers who fund core costs – day-to-day running expenses such as salaries and other overheads. Without this kind of help many smaller charities – offering vital support in their communities – would struggle to survive. And that’s why we encourage applicants to include running costs in their applications where relevant. We also help fund charities’ growth and organisational development. This includes helping organisations to get up and running as well as strategic grants for infrastructure development to help them move to the next level and beyond We operate the following grant-making programmes: The Community Open programme - Open to all charities whose work falls within our overall mission statement The Community Priority programme - Focused priority funding designed to meet local and national needs The Ex-prisoners Continuation funding programme - A closed (by invitation only) programme to support previously funded charities working to help ex-prisoners reintegrate into the community Matched Giving Scheme - For Lloyds TSB Group employees who are involved in charity fundraising Contact the Grant Manager for Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire: Tel: 07734 973060 Fax: 0870 411 1224 Email: lincs¬ts@lloydstsbfoundations.org.uk |

Hilden also provides a summer play scheme funding programme. Applications from organisations working with refugees and minority ethnic groups are given priority. Grants for the scheme rarely exceed £1,000. Grants are rarely given to well funded national charities. Fund policy is directed largely at supporting work at a community level within the categories of interest stated above. Preference is given to charities with an income of less that £200,000 per year. Priorities given to different types of work within the main categories may change from time to time, as dictated by circumstances. Capital or revenue grants rarely exceed £5,000. |

| Date | 2 February 2009 |
|---|---|
| Venue | NCSL, Triumph Road, Nottingham |
| Cost | FREE |
| Description |
Our aim is to work with Children’s voluntary, private and community sector organisations in developing their understanding of the benefits of a diverse workforce and to share recruitment best practice, in order to market and develop a career structure that is appealing to all sections of the community. To make childcare settings more inclusive, it is vital that they are culturally appropriate and sensitive to the community they serve. These events will be focussing on development opportunities through deeper understanding of equality and diversity issues, and their direct implications in recruitment practices and activities carried out in the setting. Each event is limited to 50 participants, but information developed through the sessions will be compiled into a dynamic and useful toolkit, to distribute to attendees and more widely within the sector. This will enable best practice to be shared more widely and ensure the learning experience and development of information is continued beyond the event. |

Successful Commissioning: Preparing Your Children's Service Tenders (3rd Dec 2008 at Best Western Westminster Hotel, Nottingham)
| Date | 3 December 2008 |
|---|---|
| Venue | Best Western Westminster Hotel, Nottingham |
| Cost | FREE |
| Description |
Is your organisation commission-ready?
The way in which local authorities commission children's services is changing. Following the highly successful VCS Engage programme, NCB are now offering a new series of training courses to support voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations. This two-day training course will enable you to enter the new commissioning process with confidence, equipped with the tools to understand what commissioners want and how you can deliver within the Every Child Matters (ECM) framework. The training will help participants to: Identify the key skills, characteristics and standards that organisations need to demonstrate when responding to Pre-Qualification Questionnaires (PQQs), Expressions of Interest (EOIs) and commission tenders. Identify the evidence they will need to support their application within local commissioning arrangements. Provide a checklist for writing a successful commissioning tender. Why attend? This training provides the opportunity for participants to explore the commissioning requirements, as well as undertake practical exercises around commissioning applications. The course will also offer the chance to meet colleagues, exchange experiences and share knowledge with others working in the children's services field. There are a number of reserved free places for voluntary and community sector organisations on each course. To be eligible, your organisation must have an annual turnover of less than £200,000 and no more than 5 paid employees (unpaid volunteers do not count as paid employees). Who should attend? The training is designed for VCS managers and infrastructure support organisations that have a role in commissioning children, young people and family services. Training is suitable for organisations of all sizes, and will benefit voluntary and community sector (VCS) organisations, local authorities and other organisations involved in commissioning. Course content Legislation and context Delegates will explore the legal and policy context for commissioning. They will also examine some of the quality standards, outcomes and outputs, and the basic requirements to satisfy Pre-Qualification Questionnaires (PQQs) and Expressions of Interest (EOIs). How commission-ready is your organisations? This theory-based session will identify the key skills, characteristics and standards that VCS organisations need to demonstrate in order to be commission-ready. How do you write a successful commission application? Using case studies, delegates will be asked to write sample tenders. They will then present these tenders to the group, who will be asked to evaluate each other's submissions. At the end of the practical exercises, delegates will have developed a clear idea of how to write a successful tender and will leave with a comprehensive checklist. The training course will conclude with the opportunity for delegates to consolidate their knowledge and discuss their learning with colleagues. Please note that in order for delegates to benefit fully from this training, a small amount of pre-training reading is required. It will take a maximum of two hours and NCB will supply all documents two weeks prior to the course date. |
