Open Date 1 April 2008
Close Date 31 March 2009
Minimum Amount £1.00
Maximum Amount £3000.00
Description There is no formal application form. For administrative purposes, it is helpful if the appeal letter can be kept to one or two sides of A4 paper, which may be supported by background information. Please do not send videos, tapes or bulky reports; they will not be returned. The following information is required:

• Charity name and registration number.
• Brief details about the project and the sum to be raised - please ensure you include a clear aim or list of objectives.
• Details of the amount raised so far towards the target and if relevant, briefly mention how you intend to raise the rest.
• A copy of the last audited accounts and annual report.

The Directors meet quarterly and applicants will be notified when their appeal is to be considered. Please note - due to the overwhelming number of appeals, we can only fund about 25% of current applications. If you are unsure whether your appeal is likely to succeed then please contact us for further advice.

Regrettably, due to overwhelming demand, unsolicited appeals are extremely unlikely to attract a grant in connection with salaries, general running costs or major capital projects. We also do not support overseas schemes or appeals on behalf of individuals.

We only accept applications from UK registered charities or recognised churches - there are no exceptions to this rule. Using another charity to bid for funds on behalf of a third party is not permitted.

In considering unsolicited appeals, the Directors prefer appeals where there are relatively small, attainable targets and they place great importance on clear evidence of local support. The Directors also take into account whether it is likely that any grant they make will be put to immediate use.

In all cases, applications should be sent to:
Mrs Sheila Gent, We strongly advise that you contact Mrs Gent before submitting an appeal.

Open Date 1 April 2008
Close Date 31 March 2009
Minimum Amount £1.00
Maximum Amount £702000.00
Description Through the Money4Youth scheme the Government has given Northamptonshire County Council £702,000 to allocate to young people between the ages of 13 and 19 who come up with the best ideas for youth activities in their area.

The money has been divided up amongst the Boroughs and Districts according to their population.

Corby - £91,242
Daventry - £94,741
East Northants - £96,828
Kettering - £96,544
Northampton - £133,663
South Northants - £96,303
Wellingborough - £94,885

We want young people to be involved in decision making about things to do and places to go. They can be anything from a music group to a chess club to a girls football club or a DJ event. We want you to think about whether your project gets lots of other people involved, active and taking part.

We want you to make sure that young people who don't always get activities or opportunities are catered for and supported so that they can take part in activities.

Each Borough/District has a local youth forum run by young people who have a responsibility for your local rights. Simply put your ideas on the simple form and send it to your local Youth Forum.

Young people from your local district (or borough) youth forum will then choose the best, most interesting ideas, which can be delivered to you quickly with the help of council staff.

Once the ideas have been chosen the council officers will sort out the arrangements to start the project. Everyone who applies will be told about the best projects and be thanked for sending in their ideas whether their idea was chosen or not.

Open Date 1 April 2008
Close Date 31 March 2009
Minimum Amount £250.00
Maximum Amount £5000.00
Description UnLtd Sport Relief Awards provide opportunities for young people to bring communities together, to help them promote understanding and solve conflict through sport and being active.

This UK wide funding programme is for 11-21 year olds, who are prepared to go the extra mile and use their passion for sport to bring respect and understanding to their communities by setting up their own projects.

Funding of £250-£5,000 is available for entrepreneurial young people who have great ideas and who want to make a difference. For example, with this money you could engage young people from different backgrounds by organising an indoor cricket mini-world cup. Or perhaps you could help reduce violence in your area by getting young people to channel their energies into football rather than fighting. Or how about organising a skateboarding competition for kids that will reduce tensions in the local area. …all it takes is one great idea. So what are you waiting for? This could be your chance to get your community moving and score some skills on the way!

Learning - The Foundation’s main priorities for support are: libraries, museums and archives; and special educational needs and learning difficulties. State funded schools and special schools may be supported. State funded secondary and primary schools can apply for projects with direct educational benefit but must demonstrate why their project cannot be funded from statutory or other funding. If the school has a PTA, Friends or fundraising arm that is a charity, then this should be the applicant on behalf of the school.

Citizenship, esteem-building, training, skills acquisition to aid employment, independent living, early learning projects or playgroups will not generally be considered.
Private schools will not generally be supported.

Arts - They seek applications that make a strong artistic case for support in either the performing or visual arts that particularly help you to deliver your artistic vision. Other priorities are: to help make the arts more accessible by developing new audiences, supporting tours, festivals and arts educational projects; and to encourage new work and support young and emerging artists.
Building and infrastructure projects to construct new arts facilities, improve or re-equip existing venues will also be considered.

Community arts activity will not generally be supported.

Health - The Foundation supports applications linked to a known medical condition.
They fund projects or core work that makes an active contribution to improved health care. Smaller health charities, including those for rare or distressing conditions will be favoured.

Advocacy, respite, counselling or general support services such as information distribution or telephone help lines will not generally be supported.

Applications should be for the benefit of people in the United Kingdom. Applications from individuals or organisations without charitable status will be ineligible.

The Foundation will consider both revenue and capital projects.

Organisations and projects that provide direct benefits and services to the public, rather than special interest groups will be favoured.

Applications for grants because funding is difficult to obtain will be of particular interest to the Trustees.

Applicants should demonstrate how the project or funding request will be sustainable, if this is an ongoing activity, beyond the end of any Foundation grant.

As part of the project appraisal process the level and purpose of the applicant’s reserves will be taken into account.

Social and community welfare organisations, whose dominant purpose is not learning, arts or health, will not normally be supported. For example, a housing association/care home providing accommodation would not be eligible but a hospice providing palliative care and medical services would be. A community centre would not be eligible whereas an arts centre would be.

'Guidelines for Applicants' and the 'Application Form' are available electronically in Word format from website below. Applicants should note that The Foundation's primary aim is to support UK charities (international work is not funded) whose core remit covers Learning, the Arts or Health. Please note, most grants awarded range between £10,000 and £50,000.

Applications are accepted all year round, they have no deadlines. It may take up to 4 months, occasionally longer, to receive a decision from the Trustees. Please apply at least 6 months before you require the funding. If you have any queries please contact them.

Open Date 1 April 2008
Close Date 31 March 2009
Minimum Amount £1.00
Maximum Amount £100000.00
Description Every year the Lloyds TSB Foundation funds thousands of charities working to tackle disadvantage across England and Wales. Our focus is on supporting small and medium underfunded charities that can make a significant difference to the lives of disadvantaged people by helping them to play a fuller role in the communities of their choice. Our strong local presence enables us to respond directly and promptly to local needs.

We fund new and existing work linked to our mission
We have a special interest in keeping abreast of emerging trends and funding innovative work
We fund work that can share learning and best practice
We provide one, two and three year funding
We make grants appropriate to the size of the charity

The Foundation is also one of the few grant makers who fund core costs – day-to-day running expenses such as salaries and other overheads. Without this kind of help many smaller charities – offering vital support in their communities – would struggle to survive. And that’s why we encourage applicants to include running costs in their applications where relevant.

We also help fund charities’ growth and organisational development. This includes helping organisations to get up and running as well as strategic grants for infrastructure development to help them move to the next level and beyond

We operate the following grant-making programmes:

The Community Open programme - Open to all charities whose work falls within our overall mission statement

The Community Priority programme - Focused priority funding designed to meet local and national needs

The Ex-prisoners Continuation funding programme - A closed (by invitation only) programme to support previously funded charities working to help ex-prisoners reintegrate into the community

Matched Giving Scheme - For Lloyds TSB Group employees who are involved in charity fundraising

Open Date 1 April 2008
Close Date 31 March 2009
Minimum Amount £1.00
Maximum Amount £5000.00
Description The Hilden Charitable Fund award grants to projects both in the UK and in developing countries. The aim of the fund is to address disadvantages, notably by supporting causes which are less likely to raise funds from public subscriptions. Both the UK and overseas fund policy is directed largely at supporting work at community level. Grants are rarely given to well funded national charities, grants are not given to individuals.

Grant making priorities are: Homelessness, Minorities, and Penal Affairs. For projects in developing countries, priorities are projects which focus on Community Development, Education, and Health.

Hilden also provides a summer play scheme funding programme. Applications from organisations working with refugees and minority ethnic groups are given priority. Grants for the scheme rarely exceed £1,000.

Grants are rarely given to well funded national charities. Fund policy is directed largely at supporting work at a community level within the categories of interest stated above.

Preference is given to charities with an income of less that £200,000 per year.

Priorities given to different types of work within the main categories may change from time to time, as dictated by circumstances. Capital or revenue grants rarely exceed £5,000.

Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Funding

Open Date 23 May 2008
Close Date 10 October 2008
Minimum Amount £1.00
Maximum Amount £15000.00
Description As a general principle, the Foundation supports projects which are genuinely original in their field and also favours those which take place outside London. In addition to accepting applications for projects that fit within its designated programmes, the Foundation increasingly sees the value in initiating a series of strategic partnerships. Exceptionally, they may consider ideas which fall outside their programmes if they think these to be of particular interest to them and they have the potential to be truly innovative.

Arts Programme - The Foundation’s art theme supports professional artists and UK based arts organisations, usually at an early research and development stage. There are two grant programmes in 2008: The Arts in Public Spaces - This will be the third and final year of this programme and those in rural areas will be prioritised. The Arts and Science - The Foundation has pioneered collaborations between artists and scientists for the past 10 years and this aspect of the programme has come to an end.

Education Programme - Within the education theme, the Foundation continues to support educational innovations and developments. In 2008, its two programmes are as follows:

Human Scale Schools - This programme is designed to help secondary schools strengthen their commitment to human scale education.

Cross-cultural Schools and Youth Work Projects - Support is offered to secondary schools, and to those agencies who work with them, to implement imaginatively and ambitiously that part of the KS3 curriculum designed to encourage empathy and understanding between students from different cultures, both within and between schools (i.e. inter-school linking projects, involvement of local community groups etc.). Support is also offered to youth organisations, and those agencies who work with them, wishing to initiate projects aimed at fostering better relations between young people from different cultures and faiths.

Social Change Programme - In 2008, the Foundation is looking for applications under its social change theme which explore innovative, but well-thought-through, approaches from which learning can be gained in the following key areas:

Financial Inclusion - They are interested in projects which will generate improvements in financial literacy and access to financial services for people currently not well-served by existing institutions and practices.

Environmental Awareness - They are interested in innovative work aimed at increasing personal responsibility and for trialling accessible, realisable solutions to aspects of local, national or international environmental issues. They are especially interested in working with excluded groups. The programme is unlikely to fund projects for children or schools or any new carbon counting or offsetting schemes.

Older People - They are interested in projects focusing on new ways to involve and support elderly people in their local communities.

Anglo-Portuguese Cultural Relations - This Programme aims to help projects that promote contemporary Portuguese culture in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. ‘Cultural relations’ are taken to include activities in the arts, education and social change.

Grants are available for: activities and events concerned with Portugal or containing Portuguese elements – its language, culture, people; cultural and educational interaction between British or Irish and Portuguese people, which may include research and development visits to Portugal by professionals (festival and/or arts venue directors, managers, producers, etc.) who are interested in presenting Portuguese arts in the UK and Ireland; the educational, cultural and social needs of the Portuguese immigrant communities (but not individual Portuguese immigrants or visitors).

Applications will be considered at their July Meeting (deadline 23 May); November Meeting (deadline 10 October). As a guide, grants made by the Foundation rarely exceed £15,000. The Foundation does not give grants in response to general fundraising appeals or towards the simple continuation of existing services. Please read fuller details on their website including their list of exclusions.
